Hurray! As you can see, I'm quite grown up now and ready to take piano lessons. I will be sharing all my lessons here, so check in and see how I'm doing.
I'm waiting.....
FINALLY! We have had our first lesson. I had no idea there was so much stuff I had to do to get going.
Mommy gave me my own copy of The Piano Lesson Workbook-Primer Level. We went through the whole book and she showed me how to use it. There was a contract at the beginning. I signed first, then Mommy (because she's my teacher) and then Daddy (because he's my parent). I agreed to practice 20-30 minutes a day for right now and I will practice every morning (since Mommy is teaching other students in the afternoon).
In order for me to get the most out of my lessons, Mommy said I need a pedal extender (because my legs are too short to touch the ground), a metronome (I'm not sure what this is for yet), 2 sharpened pencils with good erasers (this might prove to be a little difficult) and a great reading light (well, we already have all this stuff).
She also gave me a lesson book and a performance book for younger beginners. She said I have 3 books that I am responsible for and must bring to lesson every week. My lessons are 30 minutes long this first year.
Off we go......
Now that we have all of that stuff taken care of, we can get started. Mommy talks to me about the piano and how it works. We go through the Music Appreciation portion of The Piano Lesson Workbook. I had no idea there were so many parts.
The lesson book came next. Mommy was doing a lot of talking and told me I had to remember all of this for next week. Gees, I'm just a little girl! How am I supposed to remember? She said that was what practicing was all about.....oh. We also video taped my lesson, so if I forget things, I can watch and remember.
I'm tired, so Mommy said we could stop. You can certainly stuff a lot of material into 30 minutes.
